Stunning home, Outstanding owners--great value
Our group of six (five adults, one 6-yr old child) recently spent 5 nights at this home. The house is very clean and comfortable, with many amenities--it was an excellent value. Guillermo, the owner, was very accessible all the way through the reservation process and in the months leading up to our visit sent helpful details about the house and things to do in the area, and even made arrangements for us for airport transfers. The house is very well located on a quiet dead-end street that fronts onto Playa Tortugas on the calm north shore, less than a 5-minute walk from small shops, restaurants, and the ferry to Isla Mujeres. The outdoor terrace is simply beautiful, with nice (and plentiful) furnishings, a pool, and a view of turquoise Caribbean waters. We didn't need a car while we were there; for $1US, you can take a bus up and down the strip that gets you pretty much anywhere you need to be, and there are cabs aplenty.
Unfortunately while my group was there, one of us needed an emergency appendectomy; on the very fortunate side, Guillermo the owner and his wife recommended an excellent hospital (Galenia), and came to the hospital, without us even asking, to help us non-Spanish speakers understand what the prognosis was when a complication set in. They also offered their help in general and checked in every day after the surgery. They are extremely kind, caring and attentive people with a gorgeous home that I feel lucky to have stayed in, even with the stress of the medical emergency.
On the kid front: also good! The house was stocked with plenty to keep my 6-yr old interested, from snorkeling sets to beach/pool toys, to a sea kayak, to backgammon and chess sets, and of course there was TV. With an abundance of twin beds in the house, it is set up well for children to sleep, too. The house sits next to a small but lovely set of townhouses on one side, and a couple beautiful houses on the other. We saw neighbors who were friendly but there was never any bothersome late-night noise to interfere with sleeping.
The beach directly in front of the house has big rock formations that are good for sitting or laying out on. Mornings, there was virtually nobody on the beach; a few more people in the afternoon or locals on weekends.
I plan to return to this house sometime soon. This time, I will travel with friends who are appendix-free! Thanks, Guillermo, for everything. You are the best.
